Including modules

Modules are used as follows:

• build ``kernel'' modules with

  kmod_cc -c -D__KERNEL__ -DMODULE -O -fomit-frame-pointer \
    -fno-strict-aliasing -I/usr/src/linux/include \
    -o module.o module.c
  

• build iproute2/tc modules with

  tcmod_cc -shared -o module.so module.c
  

• in the simulation, load the ``kernel''' module with the insmod command. If the iproute2/tc module is in a directory where dlopen(3) can find it, it is automatically loaded. Otherwise, load it with the preload command.

The kmod_cc command-line options are the same as used when building real kernel modules. kmod_cc automatically adjusts the command line such that tcsim's private includes are used.

Note: there may be include file problems when building for tcsim, even if your code normally compiles perfectly. The reason for this is that tcsim replaces many kernel include files in order to limit the amount of functionality that needs to be provided by the glue code. When encountering such problems, please send a bug report with an example of the source that causes the problem to the author.
